Transparent, flexible, and worth talking about

Money is often the thing that keeps people from getting support they deserve. I want to make it as easy as possible for you to understand your options before we ever speak.

When available, I offer a sliding scale for clients who need it. I can provide a Superbill for out-of-network insurance reimbursement. And I never require you to commit financially before we've had a free consultation. If my fees aren't workable, I'll do my best to connect you with someone whose rates fit your situation.

COMMON QUESTIONS

You have questions? I might have answers.

  • I don't accept insurance directly. This is a private-pay practice, which means your sessions stay completely confidential — no diagnostic codes shared with insurers, no treatment plans reviewed by a third party. Many clients find this especially important given the nature of sex and relationship therapy.

  • A Superbill is an itemized receipt I provide on a regular monthly cadence. You submit it directly to your insurance company, and if your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, they may reimburse you for a portion of the fee. Reimbursement rates vary — it's worth calling your insurer ahead of time and asking what they cover for out-of-network therapy (CPT code 90834 for individuals, 90847 for couples).

  • Sliding scale means you pay what you can within the range, based on your actual financial situation — not a negotiation. I operate on trust and use the framework from Alexis J. Cunningfolk's sliding scale essay to help clients self-select honestly. Sliding scale spots are limited and reserved for weekly sessions, so they're for people ready to commit to consistent work.

  • Payment is due at the start of each session. I use an autopay service through the Center for Mindful Psychotherapy. All major cards are accepted. If you ever have a billing question, please don't hesitate to bring it up — financial stress shouldn't get in the way of good therapy.

  • I'll never leave you without options. If my sliding scale is full or my rates aren't a fit, I'm happy to refer you to other affirming therapists or community mental health resources in California. Just reach out — figuring this out together is part of the consultation.

  • Life happens — travel, illness, work, the unexpected. I want therapy to feel sustainable, not punishing, so the policy is designed with some real flexibility built in.

    • You can cancel up to 4 sessions per 12-month period for any reason at no charge, as long as you give at least 48 hours' notice.

    • Beyond those 4 sessions, a cancellation fee of 50% of your session rate applies — this holds your time in my schedule.

    • Please give as much notice as possible when you need to cancel. The more lead time, the better for both of us.

If something unusual is going on, just reach out. I'd rather talk it through than have fees become a barrier to continuing our work.

  • Cancellations within 48 hours of your session time are charged at the full session rate — but there's a path forward if something comes up.

    • If you need to cancel last-minute, we can look for a makeup time within the same week. If we find a mutual time that works, no fee is charged.

    • If we can't find a time to reschedule, the full fee applies and is due at your regularly scheduled session time.

    • A no-show is recorded if you haven't arrived within the first 15 minutes of your session start time. The full fee applies.

    • If you arrive late, the session still ends at the scheduled time — but you're always welcome to reach out ahead if you're running behind.

And just to be clear: if I ever need to cancel, you won't be charged anything.
